Dental Crowns (Ceramic / Porcelain / Same Day CEREC)

What are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is used to cover a tooth that’s broken, cracked or has been compromised in some other way. We offer ceramic, porcelain and even same-day CEREC crowns that are made for you while you wait in our office. Crowns can easily last for decades before replacement may be needed. They can be placed over virtually any tooth in the mouth, and they look natural and realistic.

Why are Dental Crowns needed?

You may need a dental crown for a variety of different reasons. Crowns are protective and restorative in nature, as they improve oral functioning as well as protect the underlying tooth. Some reasons you’d need a new crown include:

  • A tooth has cracked, fractured or broken
  • You have a very large filling in one or more teeth
  • You’ve recently had a root canal

Who is a good candidate for Dental Crowns?

Just because you’ve broken or cracked a tooth doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll need a crown. We can examine your teeth to determine if the restoration is needed. We offer several different types of crowns to fit your own unique needs. This ensures that you are satisfied with the look and feel of the crown. Your new crown will last for years without any type of special care.

What happens during the Dental Crown procedure?

We will begin by filing down the compromised tooth. This allows the new crown to be placed securely on top without being too bulky. For ceramic and porcelain crowns, we’ll take impressions and use these to make a new crown. You’ll need to come in for a second appointment to have the crown placed. For CEREC crowns, we’ll take digital impressions and make the permanent crown for you while you wait in the office. This prevents the need for a second appointment and is often more convenient for our patients coming to us for a crown.

If you think you might need a new dental crown and want to learn more about the procedure, call us today and we can answer your questions.
